Sussex Area Photography Competition 2020

Entitled ‘Summertime’, the Area Photography competition received 24 entries from around the county.   Judged by Director of Photography, Lucas Tucknott, the winners were

First: Brenda Bull, West Chiltington Flower Club

Judge’s comment: “A fantastic image with its vibrant colours and great mix of plants. Also, in my opinion, Brenda has shown good photography skill using a long lens to compress the image to emphasise the amount on display here. And, by shooting towards the sun she has gained great depth with all the flowers being softly backlit improving contrast in the fame. This image would look good at home on anyone’s wall!”

Second: Joyce Skeet, Warnham Flower Club

Judge’s comment: “Joyce has captured a lovely macro shot here with a nice depth of field. I like the fact the flower is central in the frame in this instance and there is great timing as the bees are on the thirds as well as the diagonal. Overall this contributes to a superb image.”

Third: Jan Crouch, Steyning and District Flower Club

“This picture makes you want to explore; I like how your eye is drawn down across the frame and because of the lower angle not only are the flowers in the foreground nice and prominent, but you find yourself almost trying to peer over them to see where the path goes. Again beautifully back lit by the sun giving the plants lovely shape and depth.”
